About Troy |
Troy Anderson was born on 15th November 2005 just under 9lb and was engaged in the pelvis for some months before delivery. As I am only a small frame I've since been advised that this was probably the cause of Troy's Plagio (being squashed - in utero constraint)
Troy was born with a funny shaped head but I know some babies are and so we was intially unconcerned. Troy was also born with a sticky eye which had not gone by 6weeks old and so the GP referred him to the hospital as he had a blocked tear duct. At this point we queried his wonky head as it had worsened if anything and we was told then not to worry as it was normal.
He now had the 'typical' parallelogram shaped head that Plagio takes with the flatness to one side, the bulge to the forhead and the ears, eyes and cheeks were noticeably assymetrical too.
At around this same time, we began to notice that Troy could not turn his head to the left and that his head always remained tilted to the right. When Troy was 3 months I researched on the internet and came across Plagiocephaly and Torticollis and went back to our GP and HV who did state he had both Plagio and Tort and reffered him to The Paed at Hospital and also for Physio. I still was not given any advice on Repo etc and only found out about it through my own research. We also paid for private Cranio Osteopathy to treat his Tort which was very effective.
Unfortunatley Troy's Plagio did not get better through repositioning and at 6months he measured 26mm assymetry, classed as severe by Dr Blecher. He still has the osteopathy every 3 weeks alongside the helmet. Troy had his appointment with the NHS Consultant who admitted having little knowledge about Plagio and was under the impression that it would always correct itself even though he noted in his letter that Troy had significant facial assymetry, flatness to the head and protruding bulges. To this date Troy has been in the Cranio helmet for 4 weeks and the consultant has requested further info of Troy's Plagio from Dr Blecher and we are still in correspondence with him. At Troy's first review he had reduced from 26mm plagio to 12mm - A huge immprovement already.
